About The Artist
Ron Hedrick was born in Vancouver in 1942 and currently resides and works from his spacious, rural studio in Mission, BC, Canada. Hedrick’s painting career commenced when he received instruction in painting from the noted landscape painter Karl E. Wood in 1968. In 1982, he had his first show at the Peters Gallery while residing in Kamloops, BC. By 1990 the demand for his work increased and his dream of becoming a professional artist was finally realized, and he has never looked back.
Hedrick’s early work was noticeably influenced by fellow Canadian Tom Thompson's stunning colors and heavy impasto oils. As his craft developed, Ron's individual style began to take shape. Hedrick's work is now recognizable with its bright, sunlit colors and spontaneous, confident brushwork. Ron is constantly exploring new concepts in light, color and form and his works range from \\\"plein-air\\\" landscapes to romantic and nostalgic situations including figurative, still lifes and images of snow scenes and beautiful gardens.
Critically acclaimed in the US and Canada, Hedrick is often referred to as a “colorist”, “ illuminist” and modern impressionist. His works have frequently been featured in publications such as “Magazine Art”, \"American Art Collector\", “International Art” and “Readers Digest” cover image and countless news articles. Ron has been voted into the exclusive and prestigious Salmagundi Club on Fifth Avenue in New York. He has also appeared on local T.V. and has been interviewed on CKNW radio by one of his many celebrity collectors, Rafe Mair. He also served as “artist in residence” at the Robert Bateman School, teaching value studies in oil paints to young and upcoming artists. His real passion is painting outdoors on location, whether alone or with a group of fellow art enthusiasts.
In 2004, he founded the” Stave Falls Artist Group”, made up of a small talented group of painters. They have since flourished and many of the participants have become noted, professional artists in their own right, contributing to commercial art galleries in Western Canada. Ron cherishes and is very proud to be part of the continued evolution of the Stave Falls Artists Group. Ron also provides art instruction to more than twenty four students at his studio. In 2009 he gave a 10 day workshop in Southern France and he is invited to give a workshops at local art communities such as the North Shore Artists Guild in North Vancouver, BC.
Ron is a totally dedicated artist and spends long hours in his studio, doing what he loves best, working on new creations and ever searching for the ideal masterpiece. The lure that is the soul of every true artist.
