The result was an enduring series of paintings of Newfoundland which received critical acclaim by loyal collectors and a nearly sold out exhibition of thirty-five works. A career artist of more than 30 years, Atyeo is well-known for his ongoing series of Killarney and Algonquin paintings where many of the Group of Seven painted. Inspired by his love of traditional and modern jazz, he also produced an evolving series of paintings and collages of jazz artists. A move to Nova Scotia brought a limited series of textural rock paintings and interior scenes that captured the joy and beauty of life in Peggy’s Cove. Last fall, a new series of abstract paintings of semi-precious stones paid homage to Atyeo’s early playful time of learning and curiosity, and finding beauty in the inanimate world. For the past two winters, Atyeo has introduced a limited series of winterberry paintings on birch panel that capture the beautiful foliage of the season. Atyeo also paints Alberta and loves to drive through the foothills; his paintings convey the majestic beauty of the Rocky Mountains. His next series is based on the Artic and will continue to reflect his unique response to contemporary life across this nation.

Atyeo is a respected teacher and conducts painting workshops across Canada. A Canadian drawing master is an artist who loves to draw, who draws well, who is comfortable in one or any number of styles and who has spent many years creating drawings that in turn have become valuable contributions to Canada’s overall artistic heritage.” Previous inductees have included Robert Bateman, Peter Mah, Eric Freifeld and Ken Danby. His art is represented in galleries across the country and has inspired many nature lovers, artists, and of course, collectors. Moreover, his striking use of light and unique painting methods have creating a captivating vision of this country’s landscape that has even influenced the way many art lovers and collectors of his work view those same subjects; a hike in the forest or the mountains is never the same for those who have come to know Langevin’s imagery.

Langevin seems unrestrained by any limitations to his artistic expression. Nothing in my education or experience as a painter could help me understand how they achieved the effects that they did. I wanted that. I wanted to know I could achieve any effect that I could imagine. I wanted complete expressive freedom…”

After finishing his Bachelor of Fine Arts degree at the University of Ottawa, David spent several years perfecting his painting skills. The workshop is open to all levels and it is intended to be a fun and enjoyable experience. On Friday evening there will be a demonstration, then the rest of the weekend we will learn to paint a variety of subjects based directly on suggestions from students. We will learn to look at each subject and see it in terms of large, overall basic shapes. We’ll start by sketching and placing the subject on the canvas then block in three simple values: light, dark and mid tone. By learning to simplify form, values and color, you can begin to interpret and break down the painting into more understandable tones and shapes instead of becoming distracted by details. This helps us to paint our subjects with greater clarity and directness. This class will be particularly helpful to students who wish to paint more loosely and to paint their subject with greater economy.

Date: Nov 2nd - 4th 2018

Time: Friday 6:00pm - 8:00pm
Sat & Sun 10:00am – 5:00pm

Cost: $325

Workshop Location:

Ellis Art Studios
1021 Ellis Street
Kelowna, BC V1Y 1Z3

Registration:
You can secure your spot by purchasing this workshop online or by signing up via email or telephone at director [@] ellisartstudios [dot] ca | 250.300.4668

Refund & Cancellation Policy:
A supply list will be provided upon registration. You may withdraw 4 weeks prior to the workshop start date and receive a full refund. And today, besides being an artist

How do you describe my art? That’s like trying to hit a moving target. Just when I think its going one direction ever elusive leopard slips away and changes its spots. Slathering thick viscid paint on a freshly unwrapped canvas is sensual and venereal. For me it’s always been more about the doing than the end product. It’s like being at a live concert. The energy that comes from the doing is a highly powerful thing. I also get board very easy so I tend to flit from subject to subject. As J R Tolkien said, “not all that wander are lost”. No matter what the subject, it’s always the same, the most amount of information with the least amount of brushstrokes.

Canada couldn’t be a better place to live. Modlinski was born in Warsaw, Poland Nov 20, 1970. From an early age he studied printmaking and later attended the School for Artistic Crafts and Design in Warsaw. In 1987 he immigrated to Canada and studied fine arts at Ontario College of Art in Toronto, where he graduated with honours in 1993. It was while studying landscape painting, that Dominik was naturally drawn to the wilderness of Northern Ontario. Following his graduation he moved to the Algoma region of Ontario to paint at the Algoma School of Landscape Arts. Since then he peruses his passion to paint the wilderness in various locations around the globe. As a matter of course, Dominik incorporates the journey motif, his creative process and his personal growth into his work.

In the early 90’s his travels led him to the Yukon wilderness and the far North, where he truly found his inner creative calling depicting the dramatic landscapes of Canada. Now, for over 15 years Dominik consistently returns to his isolated cabin in the northern village of Atlin, British Columbia to painting and explore. This wild location borders on the Yukon and Alaskan territories, which offer access to a diverse and spectacular ecosystem. This ever changing and harsh environment provides Dominik with limitless inspiration as he journeys through the path of nature’s four seasons.

Dominik’s painting journeys are a wilderness experience based upon weeks of traveling rugged and barren lands to capture in plein air style the majesty of nature. His northern travels have inspired him to explore further and visit many of earth last remaining wilderness areas. Some of the most extreme painting expeditions took him across continents and hemispheres such as Antarctica, High Arctic, Greenland, and Patagonia and most recently in to the wilds of Namibia and South Africa. As we witness disappearance of wilderness around the globe, Modlinski’s quest is to portray a need to preserve the beauty of our planet and inspire people to do so through his paintings, photographs, stories and videos.

When he is not traveling, Modlinski shares his art practice between his home on Vancouver Island, British Columbia and his cabin in Atlin, British Columbia. He also devotes his time to filming and creating his ongoing television series called ‘CHANGING LANDSCAPES’ where he and his best friend travel the world in the quest of adventure and painting locations which is currently running on SHAW television channel. During the time when he is not painting Dominik follows his second passion, martial arts. He has been training for 25 years various styles and currently holds a rank of 5th degree black belt in Karate.

The artist’s work can be found in many private and corporate collections around the world. the other using a tonal underpainting, or ‘grisaille’.

In this workshop the focus will be on learning the specific properties of acrylics and how you can use them to achieve fantastic results. Luminosity, color intensity, and mastering the transparent and translucent techniques of glazes and veils will be emphasized. Come prepared to take notes, ask questions, and to paint.

<img style="display: block; It suits my personality best -- the fluidity of the medium provides a unique sensation of unexpected colour mixing, particularly when I define only the main masses and allow the unpredictable to happen on the rest of the paper. Timing is quite important in my method. I lean intuitively toward realism, but the right speed forces me to create diffused effects and shapes. I love painting flowers and landscapes in watercolour and I'm always enchanted by the attempt to capture the contrast between loose and definitive edges, as well as light and shadow effects."

Fabio teaches painting techniques in his studio, in art galleries, as well as workshops and painting holidays throughout Brazil and abroad. Jonn spent many years on the west coast and living in The Rockies while establishing a fine arts career. He eventually settled in Kelowna, where his studio and gallery are currently located. Einerssen finds inspiration in his years as a boy living on the prairies; he paints what he remembers seeing on the horizon of his childhood like the grain elevator. His pioneer spirit is kept alive because Jonn is compelled to document his experiences in his ever-popular prairie landscape paintings.

In recent years Einerssen’s work has evolved in a more impressionistic direction: dramatic cloud formations, less detail, more blended shapes, and the always present angular light. He jokes that his evolving style is “not about his eyesight worsening, but because he is painting more of what he feels, than what he sees.” Einerssen also adds that “what you see with your eyes doesn’t always capture what you feel. When I paint, I am adding the emotion back in.” Einerssen conducts workshops throughout the year, passing on this disciplined approach to aspiring artists while demonstrating his masterful style and technique.

www.einerssen.com

SaveSaveSaveSaveSaveSaveSaveSaveSave
