Composition to Completion: Creating Dynamic Paintings with Ingrid Christensen
This workshop will put you firmly in charge of your painting from the very first mark. It will teach you to organize complex scenes into clear, coherent, and powerful paintings, and to execute them simply and logically.
Working from your own photos, you'll learn how to develop a concept and then simplify, organize, and manipulate your image to convey it. You'll discover how to create dynamic shapes and avoid excessive detail, all the while exploring the basic abstraction that lies at the heart of every successful painting.
Next, you'll develop your paintings working wet-in-wet, using a shape-based approach. You'll learn to layer without making mud, and to use brushwork in a loose yet accurate way, to convey the essentials of your scene.
Photos can't capture the subtle colour and value relationships that the human eye sees, causing frustration for the artists who use them. You'll discover how to overcome those drawbacks through an in depth exploration of colour and colour value.
All painters will complete at least one landscape during the workshop after which they may choose photo references in any genre.
This workshop is suitable for oil and acrylic painters with some experience.
