MASTERCLASS - Create Compelling Light with Gaye Adams

This three day course in oils will explore how to create the illusion of light on the canvas. It is all about value and colour relationships, and getting them exactly right.  There will be a brief colour mixing demonstration to get everyone off on the right foot, then you will dive straight into painting.

The instructor will provide a photo reference for the first day of the class and students are invited to paint along which will be an aid and a learning tool used to demonstrate the principles that will be presented during the class.  Taking photos that translate into paintings full of light is another consideration and will be discussed as well. There will be several demos during the course of the class, and instruction will be focused on individualized coaching at the easel.

About The Instructor Gaye Adams SFCA, MPAC, AFC in her own words:

I am blessed to live the life of a painter.

My work is not at all difficult to understand. It is merely an ongoing exploration of that which I find beautiful, from the everyday to the extraordinary.

What really drives me to the easel is my love of rendering light. Backlight, cast shadows, bounced light - all of it is quite mesmerizing to me. I enjoy the other elements present in the visual field, those of color and design etc., but the light hooks me every time.

In addition to doing my larger studio paintings, I very much enjoy painting on site, and have been privileged to do a fair amount of traveling and painting in the last number of years. I also enjoy doing small studies of the still life and the model in my studio during our long Canadian winters.

To balance the solitude of my life as a painter, I find a great deal of fulfillment paying forward the skills my mentors have passed on to me to my students. What a joy. I have gotten to meet some really amazing folks through the years.

Thanks for visiting my site - if you have any questions or comments for me, please feel free to drop me a line. I would love to hear from you.
